(More customer reviews)This knife has many positives, which are covered thoroughly by other reviews. In short, this knife came razor-sharp right out of the box, and the SpeedSafe mechanism is the smoothest and easiest assisted-opening mechanism I've encountered (I also own a Gerber 22-41525 Mini-Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Serrated Knife, and have looked at equivalent offerings from CRKT and Smith & Wesson, and the Kershaw mechanism is much simpler to deploy.) The Leek's ergonomics are also pretty good, although the safety is not placed in the most convenient location for my smallish hands. Overall, this is an outstanding folding knife, yet I'm sending it back.
About four years ago, I bought a Kershaw Chive Clam Pack Md: 1600X.. Now, I purchased the Leek with the black/blue smoked handle, assuming the Leek's handle would have the same texture as my Chive, overlooking that the standard Chive handle is made of 410 stainless steel, while the black/blue Leek is made of "smoked" double-anodized aluminum. The decorative "smoked" finish seems to give the handle the texture of a chalkboard, which was rather uncomfortable for my fingernails while manipulating the knife. This is most likely a personal preference issue, but I think it's worth mentioning, especially for preexisting Kershaw owners looking to augment their collecting with the black/blue "smoked" Leek.
I will most likely purchase a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek Folding Knife with Speed Safe (with the standard stainless steel handle) as a replacement.
