(More customer reviews)This is not a heavy-duty sink protector that will deflect blows from heavy pots. Nor is it cushy enough to protect fragile glass that slips from a soapy hand. But it makes up for the lack of high-end functionality by aesthetics - it looks rather unique and much nicer than a traditional sink pad.
I wanted this to use in a small sink that has some chips in the base. Yes, I'm of the school of home repair thought that says why fix it when you can disguise the problem for a while longer? And it would have worked perfectly if the size was as listed in the description. The actual size is 12.5 by 11.25 inches from the widest point to the widest point on each side. About an 3/4 of an inch less than that if you go narrow-to-narrow point in the measurement. Alas, too small for my needs, and had to return it.
On the plus side, the color is nice (sort of a smoky brownish hue), the construction quality seems decent, and it is nice to be able to cut it to fit the drain opening. I have other Umbra products and have found them to be well made.
Still, it's made of thin rubber, so don't expect heavy-duty performance. But if looks are more important than function, or if you need to hide some sink blemishes, this is worth a look. I'll give it 4 stars since it stands out from the rest of the sink pad crowd in terms of looks. Sometimes form is better than function.
