She had one of these candles burning and it didn't just add to the usual odors, I couldn't detect anything under the wonderful scent of the candle. The scent wasn't overpowering, just light and pleasant! She was selling these, and I walked out with two - I didn't get this scent (I got a pumpkin spice and melon. I don't have cat odor issues (I ask people who are seldom in the house to honestly let me know if they detect anything) - but love candles. These have wonderful throw, and for this price I will definitely be a repeat customer!!

(More customer reviews)I bought a Smoky Mountain smoker when they were made in Joplin, I have had it for years and LOVED it. Unfortunately the years took their toll and the unit rusted out.
I searched for an identical smoker and found this one, I thought the two drawer feature was a nice upgrade.
When I received the box, I immediatly noticed that it weighed maybe half of what the older one weighed, so no where near as much metal, The sheet steel is much thinner,
The only method for controling air flow is thru the damper on top, they allow free air flow from the bottom, so it is a bit more difficult to control temperature.
The firebox is very small, requiring frequent replenishment. It will accommodate only a few pieces of charcoal at a time, and will NOT accomodate large wood chunks, only small chips or very small chunks.
The water pan is quite small, requiring frequent replenishment
So, I am generally disappointed. Fortunately, I still have the old one, so I will get the rusted parts cut away, and replaced with new metal.

Weber 3742001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Copper Review

(More customer reviews)Summary -- a great grill with even cooking across the grill, gets hot (over 600 deg F), with a bit of clunky charm and plenty of accessories.
OK -- I've had a very expensive grill (>$2k) for the past 5 years, and traded it for furniture when I moved. After researching grills, the great unwashed mass and periodicals indicated that Weber Grills had even temperatures across the grill. That was important because my former grill was hot, hot, hot but very uneven in temps across the grill. My only concern with the Weber was, "Is it hot enough?"
Quick Answer -- yes -- it climbed to 550 F fairly quickly and was still climbing. That was important because I want to grill Pizza.
Assembly - I hope you have your own hex set because the one supplied takes time. An auto screwdriver is a helpful addition. This is a 2 person bonding experience for assembly, at least for me, as I'm easily bored. The directions (pictures) are not bad but doesn't anyone write a manual using words in our native tongue? Assembly may take 1.5 hr +/- depending on your do it yourself talents.
First time use was steaks -- the grill is hot! and sears well -- they turned out perfectly - medium rare; Second time was chicken; next was scallops. They all turned out delicious and the grill is a snap to use.
I recommend the grill cover and adding the smokers kit if you want to slow cook ribs, chicken, etc. I laid a smoke box on the Weber twice and the grill produced fine smoke. I think the Weber kit will smoke the chips faster and hotter since it lays on the flavor grates.
The cons? OK -- it is clunky looking compared to my uber-expensive grill. But then, it was $649 (LP Version) and cooks better than Mr. Uber-Expensive.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this grill and highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I just made my first batch of spaghetti with this attachment and after having read the horror stories here and the warnings in the Kitchenaid guide that it might require several batches to get it right, I was stunned at how easy and painless it proved to be.
The spaghetti came out quite nice, albeit a little curled on the ends when it first came out. My biggest dread was dealing with the fresh product sticking together, but it came out essentially dry to the touch and didnt stick at all. In fact, I didnt even bother laying it out in a single row, just separated it a little before dropping into the pot. If I were to guess, I think the key to my painless experience was letting it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes wrapped tightly in plastic. I know there's alot of complex flour chemistry going on in that resting period.
Furthermore, if you are wondering, the fresh pasta was far tastier than the dry stuff. I can't wait to toss it with some fresh sauce next summer. Good luck!

I was desperate so I picked up the Vornado Air Purifier and the results were instant. When I wake up in the morning I no longer have a stuffy nose and my throat is no longer sore.
I stopped taking Clariton and while I do occasionally have an allergy attack it never happens inside the house.
I would recommend dusting your room first and keeping the windows shut.

Honeywell F113C6009 Commercial-Grade Portable Media Air Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Contrary to Honeywell, this unit "pulses" air from the get-go. That would be with all new filters that came with the unit. From Honeywell's site concerning this unit model, it should only pulse when the filters require changing.
The unit makes quite a bit of noise on low speed, enough to compete with the TV and conversation if placed in the same room. We have it in an unused bedroom, not sure how good it will do there for cleaning air in the rooms we do use.
The image shows that the unit is brown, however we received the more pleasant white color.
I regret the purchase and will be purchasing a whole house filter unit that attaches to the central air unit's air handler.
All that being said, it appears to be cleaning air, so one star off for being excessively loud on low speed.UPDATE 01/10/10: I became used to the sound of the unit fairly quick. It is still noticable, but not too annoying since considering it is doing a job. The unit does clean the air in a 20x20 area very good, no doubt about that. It appears the filters do not require any maintenance for 90 days, and then only light vacumming/blowing now and then before a yearly replacement. Also, this particular unit utilizes a "CPZ canister (that) reduces smoke and odors". I retract my initial review above and rate this a five star product.

Going back to simplicity, (The fancy one failed in less than 1 years use) i bought a Big Chief and have been extremely pleased with the results. i can honestly say i've done 30 pounds of beef jerky alone in this smoker. The salmon and cheese i have smoked were excellent as well. No smoking process is completely "hands-off", but the Big Chief is a simple, honest platform that will allow you to produce wonderful results. Their wood chips are inexpensive and work perfectly in the smoker. Also, IF you should ever need them, replacement parts and readily available, and it's made here in the USA! Anybody remember Grandpa's smoked meat back in the day? It was probably done on a Chief. 'Nuff said ;)

Char-Griller Smokin Pro Charcoal Grill Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these Super Pro Grills and the Side Firebox this past week and used it yesterday to make the best pulled pork shoulder I've ever smoked.
The grill was fairly easy to put together, and I was able to do it by myself contrary to the indication on the instructions.
Once we stoked and started it, it proved to be a great buy- it was relatively easy to keep a low, constant temperature around 225 degrees, occasionally adding more fuel and wood to the side firebox. It does need to be watched and checked often, but is worth the effort. It retains the smoke well, even though a good amount escapes around the joints, and produced a truly enviable smoke ring on the meat.
The cast iron grates are easy to clean and really make this model superior to anything I've seen in the price range. One caveat is they MUST be cleaned and seasoned properly to ensure they won't rust, but that being said they're amazing. (One good cleaning tip I got from my grandfather, who's an old hat at smoking and grilling, is to place them in a self-cleaning oven on the clean cycle when they get really cruddy, and they come out perfect with the seasoning intact).
I have only one complaint-- the first time my husband and I tried to move the grill, both of the included plastic wheels cracked around the axle, making it impossible to use them to roll the grill! I looked back over the instructions, but as I suspected, I had installed the wheels correctly. The grill was not rolled over rough terrain, just down our driveway to the backyard.
We LOVE the grill itself, but need to be able to move it to different locations around the house (backyard for parties, driveway for our use). I contacted Char-Griller about this and they were very helpful, offering to send replacements. However, I think we're going to get a set of sturdier wheels from somewhere else, not relishing the idea of replacing THOSE wheels again.
Overall, this is a great buy, and as an avid griller and smoker I'd recommend it as a great first foray into smoking.

Its straightforward wood chips (not chunks) that are extremely simple to use and don't require much effort on your part. Soak them first to prevent burning for longer use or for a quick burn toss them on as is (I usually put them in a foil pouch for extended cooking). They're said to be soaked in cabernet; you can't really detect any notes of cabernet from the wood while in the bag or while smoking/smoldering in the grill but this is immaterial. I'm a city guy so I couldn't tell you the difference between Oak or Applewood in the grill, but having bought the Poultry Blend as well, I can say there is a difference in taste. The blend is aromatic but doesn't leave your home smelling like a hickory- or mesquite-filled smokehouse. For someone living in a rural area, buying these wood chips (though inexpensive) may seem like buying bottled water 50 years ago: why pay for what you have for free? Well, if you don't have access to trees for choppin', while very basic, this wood chip blend is convenient and very much so worth the money. I'll be buying again soon.

Honeywell HAW500 HydraPure Air Washer 2-in-1 Air Purifier and Humidifier Review

It's a sneaky problem which I am almost 100% sure of is related to the filling cap on the tank. The problem with the vertical tank is that the only thing that prevents too much water to enter the basin is the vacuum created in the tank when the water leaves it. If that vacuum is disrupted the water will just continue to flow into the basin until it overflows. In this case it's the cap that is not sealing properly. The seal gradually loosens over a couple of hours until something gives way and the water starts flowing out. So if the unit looks fine when you set it up you might wake up (hopefully) around 2 am in the morning with a wet floor. I am on my second unit now which seems ok but its being monitored closely and sits in a rubbermaid container until it proves its not a bed wetter anymore. I spoke with the distributer (Kaz) who claim that this model does not show any excessive amount of warranty claims. I am not sure if they would ever to admit to anything else though. Another potential issue I found is that the disc that are spinning inside the unit ([...]) are sometimes a bit mis-aligned. For instance one of the discs might be too close to the edge and generates a scraping noise. You can remedy this by just removing one of the discs from the axle.
Aside from these flaws I think the unit works great when in working order. The dics turn nice and quiet in the water basin and the fan is silent enough on the lowest setting. It keeps the humidity well and when it reaches the desired level it shuts off saving both electricity and on the noise levels. The unit can be set on continuous use which the manual calls "automatic". Unfortunately its not very specific about what that mode does, in my opinion it just seems like its permanently on regardless of the environmental humidity. This would be useful in the summer when the humidity is high enough for the unit to shut down but you still want to benefit from the units filtering qualities (pollen, dust, mold, etc.)
I like the fact that it has a washable filter that does not need exchanging. You have the option of an additional disposable coal filter to catch smells but its not mandatory.
The display is nice and crisp and with a pretty blue back light so it's easy to control in the dark should you need to. The display shuts off after a few seconds so you don't need to worry about that glare that some products create from persistent led's and back lights.
All in all its a good product (when working), but has some design/quality control issues that might want you to think twice, or at least make sure you have a good return policy if you are affected by these issues.

I put two large bags on top of the dressers, and the smaller bags in each drawer. It did a better job inside the drawers, almost eliminating the odor altogether, and helped somewhat on the outside. It is a definite improvement. Note, plan on putting the bags on a hankie or something similar as they are "dusty".

Char-Broil Electric Vertical Smoker, 30-Inch Review

(More customer reviews)I used to have "Little Chief" top-loading electric smoker years ago that
I used mostly for fish. Worked great. When I pretty much stopped fishing
I got rid of it; it was in sad shape. I had been slow cooking ribs on
my 15 year old 2-burner Char Broil gas grill putting them on foil on
the warming shelf. This took constant monitoring to suppress fire from
the run off grease. I got this smoker hoping it would maintain a constant
temperature and no fire. This it does fine. However, it does not
produce enough smoke to satisfy me. Research online show this to be a common
complaint. The problem is, I think, that because the heating element is turning
on and off to maintain temperature, it does not keep the chips in the holder
smoldering. This smoker is well insulated, which exasperates the problem.
I contacted Char Broil about this and they said if I wanted more smoke,
add more chips. Duh, now why didn't I think of that!
I bought a Smoke Daddy device and installed it on this smoker. This is
a aluminum cylinder that attaches by a one inch pipe through the side of the
smoker. You fill it with chips and heat it from below with a propane torch and
put on the caps. It comes with a pump that forces air through the unit and
into the smoker. This unit produces all the smoke you could want. I runs maybe
four hours on a filling. I wap it with a mallet occasionally to settle the chips. Problem solved.
The smoker came in a factory box that appeared to be undamaged. However, there were several small dents here and there on the unit. This I assume
was done at the factory. These do not affect the operation on the unit.
Also, I find that the hinges are slightly adjustable to improve the fit of the door. I slip a piece of foil under the heating element and spray everything
with vegetable spray including inside the Smoke Daddy (smokedaddyinc.com). This significantly aids in the cleanup. I like the idea of a removable
temperature control and element. As there is no internal wiring or computers,
one can probably turn the hose on the inside (I did). If you drill a hole for the Smoke Daddy pipe, make sure you leave enough clearance to unscrew the S.D.
I didn't consider this and lucked out in just clearing the smoker's handle when rotating the S.D.
The spec calls for a 11/16 hole (I think). I did have this size and a large drill to spin it. Your results may vary. By the way, the Char Broil cover for
this smoker is quite nice.
Possibly the smoker could be larger. Two pork rib slabs and six large chicken breast completely filled it. I'm going to try putting the ribs in a vertical rack for more efficient use of space.
